About Maggie Parr

About

Maggie Parr has been writing, designing, and painting for over thirty years. She received her BA from Pomona College and MFA from Cal State Fullerton. Her first job was at Gemini Graphic Editions, where she worked as a printer with artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Claus Oldenberg. After that, Walt Disney Imagineering brought her on as a show designer for theme parks. Early projects included Toontown (California) and Animal Kingdom. Since then, she designed themed environments around the world; written and illustrated books; and painted portraits and murals for individuals and companies. Her passion is in visual storytelling: creating a visual vocabulary around a central narrative. Her specialties include concept design, painting (traditional and digital), characters (licensed and original), and themed environmental design. In addition, she maintains a studio practice with a long list of exhibitions; and she writes and illustrates graphic novels.

"What I enjoy most about the creative process is finding the core story that drives everything. It's like mining for gold. Once I find that, the details of the project unfold like a treasure map." --MP
